Freedom may be more valued than safety but I feel like people take freedom and safety for granted, and many have not experienced a dangerous, or not free life.

I think safety and freedom go hand in hand. If you have freedom you can’t be safe. If you have safety you can’t be free. If we had too much freedom we could go around doing what ever we want e.g killing people with out getting in trouble and thinking it’s right. If we had too much safety we wouldn’t be prohibited to do many things and wouldn’t be free.

Freedom means having a life where you can do what you want - to an extent. You can't go kill people. Or steal or rob or put busses on fire. We should give up the freedom to do bad things to protect others.

t depends on whether you mean online or real word policing. I think we need more armed police in Dublin following last weeks riots. We won't lose freedom we get freedom because we are safe to walk around. I think the guards should stay as they are in mindset as in protecting peace but have the power to use weapons in a way to threat people and put them off.

I think safety is more important, as if you just chose freedom, you would obviously be able to do anything without repercussions, but if you are attacked, robbed etc. no one is obliged to help you.

I think Safety is needed to a degree- Yes, we need gardaí who can defend against Justice (and even if that means guns and baton.) however we need gardaí who are free from corruption.

Good points but I disagree with the idea of introducing guns in Ireland to protect safety. Because the legality of it would be abused and no one wants the horrors of what happens in America for example school shootings.

yes I agree with M because what if your dad was a police man and you took his weapons. Who knows what could happen having guns in circulation in Ireland.

I dont think that gardaí should be allowed to shoot and/or kill other people just to protect themselves, because we are all people and we are all the same value, a blue uniform and a badge doesn’t change that

Some philosophers worry that when a society prioritises safety above all else, it often leads to the concentration of power in the hands of a few. Do you think that could happen?

There are too many stories about corruption in police forces and the last thing we need is guns

I think that security is more important because if there were no rules in place and there was no government people would do what ever they wanted to do and people would live in the fear that someone might hurt them or even kill them. So I think that security is more important because you know that you would be safe and most of the people are respecting the rules or laws.I think that security is more important now because of the violence and unrest in Dublin City. It’s is important now because people have to go into city at Christmas and we don't want people to be afraid in their home town

I definitely think that just like everything in life there needs to be a balance because with too much security it borders imprisonment and with too much freedom the world could run wild for example if there were no laws in Ireland people would defiantly take advantage of that , why wouldn’t you steel if every one was stealing no one would end up with a loss because if some one stole my car i could steal some one else’s. But when it comes to psychopaths and murders there’s no one to police them and your on your own, now i know thats an extreme but im just saying people will always take advantage not everyone but people will become influenced. On the other hand if you take a look at North Korea very strict security, no one in no one out , its much like imprisonment they cant do what they want they don’t have freedom. So basically in the first example there expecting if there’s no rules to be broken no one willl beak them and in the second they’re not alowing people to break the rules in the first place, your better of with the correct balance if your in a high crime rate area such as Dublin City add more policing and have the right amount freedom with that too for example if they wanted to put a curfew on Dublin City so it would be safer that would be too far because if they had enough policing it would be safe enough, so security and freedoms really rely on each other so you would definitely need a balance of the two

It seems that we just took our security for granted and when we have peace and no problems with violence on the street we have the luxury of saying freedom is important. but I don't think you can feel free with feeling secure first so I wouldn't like to imagine a Dublin or Ireland without a strong government and gards

In an ideal world there would be no limit on a persons freedom. However freedom to do what one likes could mean a dangerous society for people as there is potential for people to exploit freedom. Eg: the Dublin riots where people stole merchandise and goods from stores.

If there freedom or no laws people can do what ever you wanted without any consequences so people could steal food or items with out anything happening so eventually money would no longer have a point. So then basic survival itesms like food water and shelter will become a free for all and it’ll be every man for them selfs. But what happens to the old people who can’t go out to fight for the basic survival needs, or disabled people? And people who might be phycotic or on drug?

I think people take freedom and security for granted. If they took away your freedom you’d notice your security more and vice versa. You’d only notice your security when you have no freedom and the same with your security

People should have a choice between freedom or security. If security was mandatory, they have to go by the rules the government set. This could easily be bias towards a religious group/race/gender and corrupt politicians could make unfair rules. People shouldn’t have complete freedom either as there would be no order and people would go crazy and let their impulses take over. People are unhappy with the world right now, but more/less security would only make the situation worse.

I think that freedom is very important but with too much freedom the world would be chaos, humans are animals. Even with laws people do what they would when they want. I feel if there is more security it could cause more riots and protests that are not peaceful.

I think the cameras being traced is going to be a big problem in the future there are loads of ups about this but probably more down sides. The downsides of this can be people taking your photo from where you were 6 months ago for example, and then post it on the internet. In my opinion this Face ID thing should not be approved

Freedom an security do kinda go together. Freedom is useless with security and security is useless with freedom. And especially now with cameras and police weapons being enforced people will have less and less freedom. Which is half bad and half good. People will be more safe and less propaganda will occur but now there will always be the sense of being watched.

I do not think governments should be aloud to limit freedom because it’s people choice to do what they want to do also in the Declaration of Independence said all people have freedom and the definition of freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants an example of freedom being limited is the new facial recognition technology so eventually when you go into public places you are being tracked by cameras.I believe we should have governments because if we didn’t everything would be legal so the world could turn into a war ground. We should listen to governments sometimes in the right situation for example people believe that the government did the wrong things with lockdowns but governments have also done good things like Garda having more power than before.

I think people wouldn’t be comfortable with their faces being everywhere on cameras, people wouldn’t feel free being watched 24/7 and I think that the cameras are would be like 20% used for finding criminal active and the rest of 80% be used by hackers and bad people trying to spy and find out more about people and frame people.

I don’t think it’s ok to limit people’s freedom because people need to be able to truly live . If our freedom was limited there would be chaos. People would try to abolish governments and other things . We should obey the governments because if we didn’t have them there would be murder everywhere.

I do not think it’s okay to limit people’s freedom however sometimes I think it’s important to set boundaries or else there would be a massive increase in bad behaviour and violence.

I don’t think we should give up our freedom for security completely but I think there should be a balance because without freedom and too much security you’d feel restricted and scared about if your saying the right thing or doing something wrong and you wouldn’t have the power to do what you want and when but without enough security you’d feel scared of getting hurt or attacked so I think there should be a balance just enough freedom so you can do what you want and not feel like someone’s violating your privacy but just enough security so you don’t feel scared for your safety

Having guards with guns would not promote peace. Once I heard a story on the news about a police woman who fell in love with a prisoner and they ran away together and he turned her corrupted. Humans are prone to being easily persuaded

I think freedom and security can go hand in hand, there has to be a balance where security is enough to keep peace, but freedom is still present.

I think that this is a very hard to determine subject, as a good balance of freedom and security is taken for granted in most societies. There aren’t any major examples of a society going fully towards freedom or security, as humanity has a decent balance between the two concepts, although not without it’s errors.

I think to get freedom you have to gain trust from your parents because if you have no trust between you and your parents it will be hard for them to give you freedom. But I think it’s important that we have freedom while we are teenagers. It can be hard to have freedom while your parents want to keep you safe.
