May 2023 : Well done to all the finalists of the Young Irish Philosopher Awards who attended UCD on the 16th May to showcase and discuss their ideas and projects with academics, school communities from all over Ireland and the public. The event took place in the O'Brien hall and some of TCG’s past pupils studying science and actuary came along in between their exams to congratulate students from their old school and listen to them discuss their projects. The participants had a tricky philosophical dilemma to contend with on Tuesday morning, seeing such a lovely day, whether to miss Sports Day or spend the day discussing their ideas on the nature of knowledge, freedom and belonging. Mr Murtagh and Ms Andrews were incredibly proud at how 50 students chose to turn up and represent TCG at UCD and miss a fun school event. Watching such active learning in action was a real treat for teachers! Although corny as it sounds, everyone was a winner by being finalists, but a huge congratulations must be extended to the 3rd Year group, Matha O'Herihrily, Ella O Hanlon, Isabelle McGowan, Sasha Sweeney and Charlotte O'Mahoney who won in their category for their podcast project called "Do we still need women's awareness campaigns in this day and age? " and to runners up Emily Gaines in 5th year, Isabelle McGowan in 3rd year, Cathal Donnelly in 1st year and Kim Kenna and Arsenii Hondo in 2nd year. A great achievement with 500 finalists invited. Well done again to all 🤔. Listen to the class podcasts here ; admin5.podbean.com/susanandrews/episodes/list
